3 Ways to Transfer Money From EDD Card to Cash App

how to transfer money from edd card to cash app

Cash App didn’t allow linking prepaid cards to its app until recently. The company had to make an exception for Employment Development Department (EDD) prepaid debit cards because they were being used for depositing federal unemployment benefits during the pandemic.

You can transfer money from your EDD card to Cash App by tapping the Banking tab and pressing “Add Cash.” After that, just follow the simple instructions to link the EDD card.

The whole process of transferring money would look something like this:

  1. Open Cash App
  2. Tap “Add Cash” (bottom left of the home screen)
  3. Choose the amount you want to transfer
  4. Add EDD debit card number
  5. Enter expiration date, CVV, and ZIP numbers

How to Set up Direct Deposit to Get Benefits Directly to Cash App

Direct deposits are easy to enable and can be activated for your paychecks, benefits, tax returns, and more.

To enable direct deposits, you’ll have to first find your Cash App account and routing numbers. These are vital for the setup.

You will typically receive direct deposits as soon as you receive them, which is up to two days earlier than with most bank accounts. It’s one of the perks of having a digital bank account.

On the other side, your first direct deposit could take a bit longer to receive as it depends on the payer and not the bank.

Let’s see now how to set up direct deposits in your Cash App:

  1. Open Cash App
  2. First, tap the “Banking tab” on Cash App’s home screen
  3. Select “Direct Deposit”
  4. Beneath “Automatic Setup”, tap “Get Started”
  5. Find the payer and follow the instructions

To do this manually, you need to find and copy your account and routing number first:

  1. Open Cash App
  2. Tap the “Banking tab”
  3. Tap the routing and account number
  4. Copy the numbers so you can provide them during the direct deposit setup

To manually set up direct deposits with a direct deposit form:

  1. Tap the “Banking tab”
  2. Tap “Direct Deposit”
  3. Select “Get Direct Deposit Form”
  4. Fill out the payer’s information
  5. Enter the amount you want to deposit from each paycheck
  6. Sign
  7. Select “Email Form”
  8. Enter the recipient’s email address
  9. Tap “Send”

You can subsequently see the completed form by going to “Get Direct Deposit Form” from the “Banking tab” and choosing “View Previous Form”.

An alternative way is to set up direct deposits on the Bank of America website.

bank of america edd card

There are two ways of accessing the Bank of America EDD debit card portal. Both of them will bring you to the same address:

You can set up the process on both a smartphone and a computer. To transfer your EDD money to your bank account:

  1. Login to the portal with your username, password, and the CVV number
  2. On your computer, open the “My Money” menu and click on “Transfers”, or
  3. On your phone and tap on “Transfers” in the sandwich menu
  4. Choose a one-time or a recurring transfer
  5. Choose your account type
  6. Enter the Cash App account number
  7. Enter the Cash App routing number
  8. Enter the passcode sent to your phone
  9. Enter the amount you want to transfer
  10. Check all the details
  11. Agree to T&C
  12. Tap “Continue” to complete the transfer

How Long to Get a Direct Deposit

Unlike traditional banks, Cash App is faster at depositing direct debits. For that reason, they are generally available within 1-5 business days.

And once you set it all up, you can acquire up to $25,000 per direct deposit and up to $50,000 in a single day.

In most cases, you will get the funds up to two days earlier than many other banks. If it’s been more than 5 days, you can contact Cash App customer support to see what’s happening, if anything.

Although the entire direct deposit procedure is swift, the exact time it takes for the funds to hit your Cash App account relies on when the payer triggers the payment. There are more factors at play, and they can also render delays.

How to Deposit Benefit Checks to Cash App

The third way of transferring funds from EDD to Cash App, besides linking the card and direct deposits, is to deposit benefit checks.

So, if, for some reason, you or someone you know still receives benefits via checks, do the following:

  1. Open Cash App
  2. Tap the “Banking Tab”
  3. Scroll down and tap on the deposit a check option
  4. Enter the amount of the check you’re cashing
  5. Take a photo of the front and back of the check with your phone’s camera
  6. Confirm

Benefits Scams

There are many EDD benefits scams and frauds out there. Here are easy ways to avoid and recognize them that will save you a lot of money:

  • The EDD doesn’t reach out to claimants on social media or apps
  • Don’t share your username or password with anyone
  • If a stranger claims they accidentally used your address or asks about mail delivered by mistake, don’t give them any info and immediately report this to the EDD via a Report Fraud form
  • Don’t respond to text messages asking you to activate a benefits debit card by clicking on a link
  • EDD text alert messages are sent from 510-74 or 918-06
  • Any and all website links should take you to a web address with “.ca.gov”
  • EDD caller ID may show “St of CA EDD” or the UI Customer Service Center 1-800-300-5616 or 833-978-2511
  • The EDD will not send representatives, agents, or spokespeople to your home

On the other side, if you’re providing false information or aren’t reporting information to the EDD, you are committing fraud and could face an assortment of serious penalties.
