Adding Money to Cash App Card at Walmart (Details to Know)

Written By Adrian Volenik

Adding money to your Cash Card at retail stores such as Walmart is easy, fast, and convenient.

To add money to Cash App Card at Walmart, tell the cashier you want to top up your Cash Card and give them the money ($5-$500 per transaction). Present them with your Cash App barcode, and that’s it. The money will be in your account shortly.

Now, let’s go into more detail and see how to find this barcode, how much the cash deposit costs, and what other locations accept Cash Card cash deposits.

How to Add Money to Cash App Card at Walmart

Paper money deposits are very convenient and don’t cost much. They’re also available at many locations (thousands of stores nationwide). More on that below.

So, to complete a cash deposit at Walmart, or any other supported retailer, simply go to the counter and inform the cashier or sales assistant that you want to add cash to your Cash App card.

Now, this is important. They need to scan your Cash App barcode. You can find it under Banking tab > Paper Money > Find a location. Choose your retailer’s location and tap Show Barcode

The money will automatically be transferred to your Cash App balance, but you should keep a copy of the receipt nevertheless.

I need to emphasize that you shouldn’t let them scan or swipe the card itself, as that is not how it works. They should scan the barcode on your phone ONLY.

You need to understand that retail stores are very advanced these days and that retail point-of-sales systems have hundreds of features.

For that reason, some employees, especially the new ones, can be unaware of some of the features the stores and POS terminals support. That’s why they might ask you for your card and not the barcode.

It’s not that the employees are stupid or that they don’t care (okay, some of them don’t), but it’s simply hard to learn hundreds of options and features in a short amount of time.

I worked at a gas station, and the cash register was overflowing with features. If you’re performing an action that you usually do only once in two months, for example, it’s easy to forget how to do it exactly.

How to Find The Nearest Location

The best way of finding a supported location is through the Cash App. Simply:

  1. Select the “Banking” tab in Cash App
  2. Select “Paper Money”
  3. Use the search bar to enter an address or find a location near you via GPS

From there, you can get directions, copy the address, or get the barcode that needs to be scanned.

Cash Deposit Limits

Naturally, there are some limits that Cash App imposes on us. For cash deposits, they are:

  1. Up to $1,000 per 7 days
  2. $4,000 per 30 days
  3. $5 – $500 per deposit

ID Verification

Some retailers may ask you for your ID as an additional step. There’s no getting around this, as it’s their shop and their rules. If you’re not okay with that, you can try another location where they might not ask you for your ID.

Can You Deposit Cash at ATMs?

Unfortunately, digital banks like Cash App don’t have many ATM features yet. You can only withdraw money as there’s no way to deposit cash into your Cash App account.

As far as I know, only traditional banks have this feature. Luckily, we can at least deposit cash at retail stores.

How to Deposit Checks on Cash App

Depositing checks on Cash App is much easier than going to a bank. It consists of the following steps:

  1. Tap on your balance in Cash App
  2. Scroll down and tap on the option to deposit a check
  3. Enter the amount of the check you’re depositing
  4. Take a shot of both sides of the check with your smartphone’s camera

After you do this, you’ll have to wait a couple of moments until the app confirms that the check submission was successful. Keep the original paper check somewhere secure, just in case there’s a dispute.

How to Pay Bills With Cash App

For such a relatively simple mobile payments app, Cash App is versatile. You might not know this, but you can set up bill pay using your Cash App balance. For this, you’ll have to use your Cash App account and routing numbers:

  1. Open Cash App
  2. Tap the “Banking” tab
  3. Choose “Deposits & Transfers”
  4. Choose “Copy Account Details”

Conclusion

As you can see, it’s easy to add paper money to Cash Card at Walmart Customer Service Desks and Money Centers. However, you’re not constrained only to Walmart, as many other stores and retailers support these deposits as well.

If you haven’t linked your bank account yet, and you have cash you want to deposit, this is a good alternative to transferring money to Cash Card.
