Can You Load Your Cash App Card At CVS? (Useful Tips)

Written By Adrian Volenik

Cash App Card, or simply Cash Card is a convenient way of handling your cash and sending it to your friends and family. However, when it comes to loading cash onto it, some people seem to be confused.

In today’s article, we’re giving an answer to the popular question – Can You Load Your Cash App Card At CVS?

Contrary to the vast majority of information on the internet, you CAN’T load your Cash App Card at a CVS. To find a cash-loading location near you, Open the Banking Tab > Paper Money > Type in your address or use GPS to see locations.

Keep on reading to see the list of stores that DO accept paper money deposits for your Cash Card, as well as what to do at the cash register.

What Retailers Support Cash App Card Paper Money Deposits?

Although CVS doesn’t support loading your Cash Card yet, there are many popular retailers around you that will enable you to load your Cash App Card, and thus your Cash App balance.

Here’s the complete list of participating retailers taken from Cash App’s website:

  • Dollar General
  • Family Dollar
  • Walmart
  • Speedway
  • Walgreens
  • 7-Eleven
  • StopNGo
  • Thorntons
  • GoMart
  • Sheetz
  • KwikTrip
  • H-E-B

Although it seems like a short list and CVS isn’t included in it, the above-mentioned retailers have tens of thousands of locations all over the United States. Chances are there’s at least one of them near you, and bigger cities have dozens if not hundreds of locations.

An important thing that we should note here is that not all locations of a certain retailer will be able or even want to load your Cash Card. Perhaps your best option would be to call a retailer directly and ask them if they perform this service.

This will spare you a lengthy drive if a location is far away. However, if a retailer is close to you, you can always just pop in and see if they will load your Cash Card.

At times, even if a location does perform these card top-ups, a cashier might not know how to execute them. In that case, they might tell you that they don’t load cards either because they don’t know how to do it or they don’t want to do it because they’re afraid to mess something up.

Sometimes if a mistake is made while topping up a prepaid card, you can’t retrieve the money because the transaction is final, in that case, a retailer could lose the money and the cashier will get reprimanded and even asked to pay back what was lost.

How to Find A Cash Deposit Location to Load Cash App Card

Finding a store where you can load your Cash Card is effortless. Here are the easy steps you need to follow:

  1. Open the Cash App
  2. Select the “Banking” tab
  3. Select “Paper Money
  4. Use the search bar and type in an address
  5. Or find a location near you via location finder

Once you’ve found the desired location where you’d like to top-up Cash Card, you can get the directions then and there or copy the address into your navigation apps such as Apple Maps, or Google Maps.

How to Add Paper Money to Cash App Card

In a nutshell, depositing paper money into your Cash Card is easy, if both sides know what needs to be done.

To deposit cash at a participating store, all you need to do is to approach the cashier and request to deposit money to your Cash App with a barcode

It’s important to highlight the barcode part because employees can be oblivious to some of the features in the stores they work in.

It’s not that they’re stupid or don’t care (OK, some of them are), but a cash register could have hundreds of options and features that you’re supposed to know about.

I worked at a gas station and it was jam-packed with features. If you get a customer that wants a service that you usually do once in a blue moon, it’s easy to forget how to exactly do it.

In some situations, a sales assistant will instruct you to swipe or insert your Cash Card to make the cash deposit. This, however, isn’t the right way of doing it. Instead, you should respectfully suggest they scan the Cash App’s barcode instead.

If the cashier still isn’t sure how to continue, offer them instructions on your phone by tapping the “?” on the Cash App map where you find the nearest Paper Money Deposit location.

The only way of adding paper money, aka loading or topping up your Cash Card is to scan your Cash App’s barcode.

How Soon is The Money Deposited to Your Cash App Balance?

Cash deposits at a cash register are extremely fast and can generally be seen in your Cash App balance as soon as the transaction is completed.

This means that you can use your Cash Card in a matter of minutes after depositing paper money in a participating store, for instance, Walmart.

Cash Deposit Fee

Cash deposits aren’t free because the participating retailer charges a fee for their service. The fee is usually only $1. However, some retailers might charge more. For that reason, it’s best to ask the clerk beforehand.

Other digital banks charge anywhere from three to seven dollars for retail stores’ cash deposits.

So, although it’s not ideal that we have to pay any fee for depositing cash to Cash Card, it could be much worse.

Deposit Limits For Cash App Top-Ups

There are some limits as to how much you can deposit to your Cash App balance. Some people think it’s to discourage people from depositing money this way as a way of curbing money laundering.

Whatever the reason, you can deposit only up to $1,000 per rolling 7 days, and $4,000 per rolling 30 days.

You can also deposit a minimum of $5 and can’t exceed $500 per deposit.

ID Verification

Be prepared that some retailers may ask for your ID. This serves as an extra verification step. For what reason though, isn’t known as you are depositing money and NOT withdrawing it.

Nevertheless, in order to deposit cash, you’ll need to follow any and all policies that the location has in place.

Although this would be extremely handy, there’s still no way of loading your Cash App Card at an ATM. Not many digital banks have this functionality, although it’s very common with traditional banks.

Maybe, in the future, Cash App will roll out this convenient feature, but for now, you’ll have to go into a retail store to deposit cash.
