How to Send Money from Paypal to Cash App (2023)

Written By Branson Knowles

Paypal and Cash App both work well for anyone looking to send money to another user, invest in cryptocurrency, and even shop! Sure, the two work well separately, but how can you send money from Paypal to Cash App?

While you can’t do it directly, you can send money from Paypal to Cash App. To do so, you’ll either need a separate bank account, a Cash App card connected to Paypal, or a Paypal card connected to Cash App.

Cash App and Paypal both work very well at sending other users funds quickly. This only works for other users using the same app though, so you can’t send your money across platforms.

Sure, you can’t send your money from Paypal to Cash App like you could another Paypal user, but that doesn’t mean you can’t send it at all! If you have a separate bank account you can use as a sort of middle man, or either one of the app’s free debit cards, you can send money easily.

You can do it for free too, as both apps offer free transfers — both in and out of their apps. Transfers outside of either app usually take 1 – 3 business days, unless you opt for an instant transfer and are willing to pay a small fee.

How to Send Money from Paypal to Cash App Using a Bank Account

adding bank account to paypal

Using a bank account might be the easiest way to send money from Paypal to Cash App.

If you bank with a traditional bank, like Chase Bank or Bank of America, and choose to connect that to both your Paypal and Cash App accounts, you can send your money there from Paypal before sending it to its final destination in Cash App.

To connect your accounts, all you’ll need is to login to Paypal with your bank account’s account number and routing number ready. Paypal will also let you connect your account by logging into your bank’s website or online platform and completing the process there.

Once your Paypal account is connected to your bank account, go ahead and transfer whatever funds you want to reach Cash App to your bank account. The transfer may take anywhere between 1-3 business days if you choose to transfer your funds for free, or instantly for a small fee.

Repeat the same process connecting your bank account within Cash App. You’ll need the same information: your bank’s account and routing number. Or, like Paypal, you can log into your bank’s online platform and connect the two from there.

Once your bank account is connected to Cash App, log into Cash App and withdraw the funds from Paypal. After a short processing period, your funds that came from Paypal should have arrived in your bank account and can be used in your Cash App account.

It may seem a little convoluted, using a bank account simply as a middleman to conduct a transaction, but it may be the fastest and most convenient way to send money from Paypal to Cash App.

How to Send Money from Paypal to Cash App using the Paypal Card

There are a ton of transfer apps on the market, like Paypal, Cash App, or Venmo, and they all function in different ways. While they each have their own strengths and weaknesses, they do have one thing in common: a debit card!

Transfer apps like Paypal and Cash App used to be for people who wanted to transact online or with their phones, not for people looking for a traditional debit card as they could find at a bank. But their user bases grew, and new users wanted new ways to use their balances.

Enter the Paypal debit card and the Cash Card, Paypal and Cash App’s respective debit cards.

Paypal is partnered with Mastercard, giving their card users the ability to use their Paypal debit cards just about anywhere. I’ll go into detail about Cash App’s card in the next section.

The Paypal debit card is free, and once you get it you have a whole new way of transferring money from Paypal to Cash App. You can apply for it in the Paypal app, and after a quick background check where they determine your eligibility, you should be approved.

Once you get your Paypal card in the mail, you can input its numbers into Cash App to, basically, connect the two finance apps. The Paypal card is a debit card much like any other, so you’ll be inputting the card’s numbers, expiration date, and security code into Cash App.

Head to Cash App and go to your profile section. It’s the button in the upper right hand corner that has either an image of a silhouette or your profile picture, if you have one. From the profile section, scroll down until you see a button that says “linked banks”.

Paypal users can get an account and routing number through Paypal, but it can only be used to receive deposits. You can’t use the numbers for any outgoing transactions. The debit card, however, is perfect.

When you click on linked banks, you’ll see three options:

  • Any cards or accounts you currently have linked
  • Link bank
  • Link debit card

Click link debit card to link your Paypal card to Cash App.

Once your Paypal card is linked within your Cash App account, you can withdraw funds from it through Cash App. Anytime you want to add to your overall Cash App Balance or send money to another Cash App user, you can select your Paypal card as the source of your funds.

Cash App has a debit card too, called the Cash Card. The Cash Card works much like a debit card coming from a traditional bank does, drawing on your Cash App Balance and using card numbers, a security code, and an expiration date to do so.

The Cash Card can also be linked to your Paypal account so that you can send money from Paypal to Cash App. If your Cash App card is connected to your Paypal account, you can deposit whatever funds you have in Paypal straight to Cash App.

To connect the two accounts from Paypal, head to Paypal once you’ve gotten your free Cash Card in the mail. Click on the “wallet” tab in Paypal towards the bottom right hand corner. On the top of the wallet screen in the Paypal app is a button that reads “add debit card or bank account”. Click on that to move forward.

Once you’ve clicked add a debit card, Paypal will give you a list of popular banks to choose from.

Cash App isn’t on there, so you’ll have to enter your card manually. Using the card’s numbers, expiration date, and security code, you can connect Paypal to Cash App.

Try sending a dollar or two at first just to make sure the connection is good on both ends.

After you’ve confirmed everything looks good, feel free to deposit whatever funds you have from Paypal into Cash App by using your Cash Card.

Is It Free to Send Money from Paypal to Cash App?

Yes, no matter which of the three methods I described above you use to move money from Paypal to Cash App, the process is free. Well, it’s free so long as you don’t mind waiting a business day or two for the funds to move.

If you want to move money quicker than that though, you will have to pay a fee. Both Paypal and Cash App charge fees to transfer money instantly. Paypal charges a 1.75% fee for instant transfer with a maximum fee of $25.00.

Cash App, on the other hand, charges 0.5% to 1.75% with a minimum fee of $0.25. It’s up to you if you want to pay the fees or wait the 1-3 business days it takes to complete free transfers.

It’s always free to use either the Paypal debit card or the Cash Card to make your transfers as well.

Can I Transfer Money from Cash App to Paypal?

Yes, you can transfer money from Cash App to Paypal in the same ways as you can from Paypal to Cash App. You can use a third party bank account, the Cash Card, or the Paypal debit card to move your funds.

The transfer speeds and fees still apply, meaning you can make your transfers for free if you don’t mind waiting a couple of business days.

While you can circumvent the fact that Paypal and Cash App are two separate platforms by using cards to make your transfers, you can’t transfer directly from one to another.

Paypal Transfer to Cash App Denied

If you just tried transferring some money from your Paypal account over to Cash App and the money didn’t make it, it could be due to a couple of reasons. First, make sure your method of connecting the two transfer apps is secure.

Cash App and Paypal are two separate apps, meaning you can’t transfer money directly to one from the other. To make a transfer, you’d either need a debit card from one of the two apps or a separate bank account.

If your Paypal transfer to Cash App got denied, check one of those methods of transfer. If everything is fine there, you may want to reach out to Paypal support to see if they can help you find the issue. Cash App support may help as well, depending on how much they can see.
