How to Fix ‘Too Many Failed Attempts in Cash App’ (2023)

Written By Adrian Volenik

For some users, Cash App can be a frustrating experience. From payments pending, to scams and hacks. However, there’s one frustrating issue that we know all too well – the “too many failed attempts” message.

Why and how does it happen, and what are the best solutions to fix it?

There are many scenarios in which the “too many failed attempts” message can appear. However, most of them can be resolved by entering the correct information, waiting for some time to pass, or by reinstalling the app after clearing all its data.

Why Does The Too Many Failed Attempts Message Appear?

The “too many failed attempts” message usually appears if you type in a wrong password too many times and your account gets locked out for a specified amount of time.

The best thing to do in that case is to wait for the timer to expire and try to remember the correct password.

You can also try and reset your PIN, as well as reinstall the Cash App itself. Before any of that, I would simply try and reboot my phone or try logging in via a web browser.

Also, if you have signed in to your Cash App on a different device, i.e., not your personal device, you should make sure to sign out before signing in on another phone or browser.

That way, there should be no issues when trying to log in again.

How Do You Reset Your Cash App PIN?

If you get the “too many failed attempts” message while inputting your Cash App PIN, you can try and reset it by doing the following:

  1. On your Cash App home screen, tap the profile icon
  2. Select “Privacy & Security”
  3. Tap “Change Cash PIN”
  4. Confirm your new PIN

The best option would be to set up your fingerprint to access the app. That way, you don’t have to remember your PIN. Regardless, the app will still ask you for the PIN from time to time, so it’s not wise to totally forget about it.

However, to change your PIN, you have to enter the app, which means that you have to know the PIN. It’s a classic Catch-22 problem.

There is a workaround though. To change your Cash App PIN even if you forgot your old PIN:

  1. On your Cash App home screen, tap the profile icon
  2. Select “Privacy & Security”
  3. Tap “Change Cash PIN”
  4. Tap “Forgot Cash PIN”
  5. Enter the code sent to your phone number
  6. Tap “Next”
  7. Enter the last four digits of your SSN
  8. Tap “Next”
  9. Choose a new PIN

Can Cash App Suspend Your Account?

can cash app suspend your account

Cash App’s parent company Block, Inc. can suspend your account at the drop of a hat.

You are completely responsible for every and all account activity. That includes any activities made by people you may have granted access to your account.

In order to not get your account potentially suspended, you have to provide accurate and complete information and keep it current.

The company can also change the account type or suspend and terminate it if you give untrue, inaccurate, or incomplete information, or you fail to comply with the account registration requirements.

Can Cash App Terminate Your Account?

Not only can Block suspend your account, but they can also close or terminate it at any time for any reason

The termination doesn’t let you off the hook for any of your obligations and the company won’t be responsible for any loss, damage, harm, or consequences, including any delay or inconvenience you may suffer as a result of the termination of the account.

So, what happens when your Cash App account gets closed? Any pending transactions will be settled and any remaining funds in your account will be returned to you.

However, in the case there’s an investigation, they may need to hold your funds.
