3 Ways to Send Money from Chime to Cash App (2023)

Written By Branson Knowles
  • 1. Chime’s Pay Anyone feature: Chime users can send money to non-Chime users via phone number or email, making it possible to transfer funds to a Cash App user.
  • 2. Link Your Chime Account to Your Cash App You can transfer money from Chime to Cash App by connecting your Chime account to Cash App and using it as a funding source. This is only possible if it’s your own both Chime and Cash App Accounts.
  • 3. Using Your Chime debit card: Connect the free Chime debit card by entering its details into Cash App to enable it as a funding source for your Cash App account. It’s also only relevant if you move funds from your own Chime to your own Cash App account.

Companies like Chime, Cash App, Venmo, and Paypal are all online banking apps that offer their customers easy-to-use, low requirement checking accounts.

While they work in the same spaces, they don’t directly work with each other without utilizing other elements of the banking ecosystem.

Chime is the only app out of all of these fintech companies to give their users the ability to pay anyone in a simple and straightforward way.

Through their feature dubbed “Pay Anyone” (great name), Chime users can send money to anyone through their phone number or email.

Their recipient will receive an email letting them know they have funds waiting for them.

They don’t need to download the Chime app to claim the funds or have an account through the platform, just an active debit card.

A debit card issued by Cash App will work for that.

The Pay Anyone feature is the only way to transfer money from Chime to Cash App if you want to send money to someone else, not yourself.

Check a video guide Elijah recorded for you to know all the details:

How to Send Money from Chime to Cash App using the Pay Anyone Feature

You can send funds from your Chime account to anyone so long as you have their email address or phone number and they have a debit card they can use to accept the funds.

To use Chime’s Pay Anyone feature, start by opening up the Chime app.

If you use a PIN to keep your Chime account that much more secure, like I do, go ahead and enter it now.

Head to the Pay Anyone tab, it’s the third tab of the four at the bottom of the Chime screen.

If it’s your first time heading to that screen, Chime will ask you for permission to access your contacts.

If you let them, they’ll be able to pull up everyone in your contact list quickly and allow you to pay them without having to search for their profiles.

Click on someone to send them money. Chime will then want to know how much you’d like to send this person.

Keep in mind Chime has limits on just about everything you can do on their app. From depositing checks to receiving ACH transfers, there’s probably a monthly limit.

Chime’s monthly limits for Pay Anyone transactions vary, so I’ll go ahead and tell you what mine are.

Keep in mind I’m not the most frequent Chime user, so my limits may be lower than a lot of other people.

My sending limit for the Pay Anyone feature per month is $2,000, and my receiving limit is $10,000.

Not bad if you’re just looking to send your friends or family members a couple of bucks here and there, but too low for any serious transactions.

Once you send funds to your intended recipient, they have two weeks to accept them with an applicable debit card. They don’t need to sign up for Chime or have the app downloaded, either.

If you’re sending this to someone on Cash App, they should be able to use their free Cash Card debit card to accept the transaction.

Once they do, the funds will be moved over to their account, ready for them to use anywhere.

How to Send Money from Chime to Cash App by Linking Your Chime Account to Your Cash App

If you’re looking to link a bank account to either Cash App or Chime, you’ll have a similar process on either platform.

Both fintech companies are partnered with another company called Plaid, the industry leader in connecting bank accounts to fintech platforms. Plaid is used on both Cash App and Chime, as well as Venmo, Zelle, and Paypal.

When you go to add an external account on either app, you’ll be met with a prompt that asks if you want to use Plaid to connect them.

Normally, you’ll have to use Plaid over just manually entering your account numbers, as Plaid also acts as the security bridge.

Plaid will then bring up a list of popular banks and ask you to choose yours.

On Cash App, you can actually search Chime in Plaid’s list of banks. I did and was able to connect to my Chime account after entering my Chime login and password information.

Now in the Cash App account, I can see my Chime account linked to the app. Chime’s banking services are provided by Stride Bank, so I see their name in the account’s description.

Even so, you are technically not transferring funds from Chime to Cash App; this way, you can top up your Cash App balance with the funds you hold in your Chime account.

Once again, it is only possible if you want to move money between accounts you both own.

It’s definitely a bad idea to somehow connect your Chime account to someone else Cash App, as your funds will be accessible by that Cash App account owner then.

I didn’t try to do this, but I assume Cash App has safeguards against linking someone else bank account.

How to Transfer Money from Chime to Cash App using Chime’s Debit Card

This is a method I usually use to connect different banking app accounts of my own.

Connecting a Chime debit card is similar to linking Chime to Cash App as a bank account, but in this case, the funding source for your Cash App account will be your Chime debit card.

So, if you have a Chime debit card, you can easily connect it to Cash App by following these three steps:

linking card to cash app

  1. Add Chime debit card to Cash App: Open the Cash App and navigate to the ‘Banking’ or ‘My Cash’ tab. Click on the ‘Add Debit Card’ option and enter your Chime debit card details.

  1. Confirm the link: After adding the Chime debit card to Cash App, it should appear as a linked card.

  1. Transfer money from Chime to Cash App: To transfer money, go to the ‘Banking’ or ‘My Cash’ tab in Cash App and click ‘Add Cash.’ Choose the amount you want to transfer from Chime and select your Chime debit card as the funding source. Confirm the transfer, and the funds will be added to your Cash App balance.

I will ask you to ensure that you’re aware of any potential fees before proceeding with this way of transferring money from Chime to Cash App.

How to Transfer from Chime to Cash App Using Cash

Many people looking to transfer funds from Chime to Cash App don’t have a debit card with either Chime or Cash App.

They’re still looking for ways to move their funds over, though, and luckily, there are a couple.

One simple way of moving money is withdrawing your funds as cash from Chime and giving them to your friend who uses Cash App.

If it’s your own Cash App account you’re hoping to transfer to, you can deposit that cash from within Cash App at a participating 7-Eleven or Walgreens.

Another way of moving funds from Chime to Cash App without a debit card is through an externally linked bank account.

If you have a bank account, you can connect to Cash App and to Chime. You should be able to use it as a middleman and facilitate your transfers.

How to Instantly Transfer Money from Chime

A lot of fintech companies and transfer apps have two transfer speeds: standard and instant.

Standard is as the name implies; the transfers are free and operate at a standard pace, usually taking around 1-3 business days to complete the transfer.

Instant transfers aren’t free like their standard counterparts, but they do move your money instantly like their name states.

Instant transfers usually cost a small percentage of the total transaction fee or a small flat rate fee, depending on the app.

Chime users can already send money to each other instantly on the Chime app.

As soon as you find your desired recipient, enter the dollar amount, and hit send, the money is sent. It will arrive in their account as soon as you leave yours.

The same cannot be said about transfers to non-Chime users.

You can send money to anyone from the Chime app, but if they’re not a Chime user, it will take a business day or two to complete the transaction, and there is no way to speed up it.
